Statement By The Prime Minister Of Canada
July 06, 2010
Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today to mark the end of the nine-day Royal Tour of Canada by Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh: “As the 22nd official tour by Her Majesty The Queen draws to a close, I want to say how delighted and honoured we have been to welcome Her Majesty and His Royal Highness to Canada. “The Royal Tour gave Canadians, and Canadian youth in particular, an opportunity to reacquaint themselves with their traditions, history and institutions – core elements, one and all, of our Canadian identity. “Residents and visitors in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the National Capital Region, Winnipeg, Manitoba, as well as Waterloo and Toronto, Ontario, also had the opportunity to take part in the activities organized in connection with the Royal Tour. “During her tour, Her Majesty The Queen highlighted the Canadian record of service in many ways, including participating in activities marking the Canadian Navy Centennial. Her Majesty also took part in the Canada Day festivities on Parliament Hill and dedicated the cornerstone for the Canadian Museum of Human Rights in Winnipeg. “What better time than now, less than two years away from Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, to reflect back on her nearly six decades of duty and service. Without question, this tour has been a source of inspiration for Canadians of all ages to help build a country and a society in which we take pride.” |
